Necromancy /ˈnɛkrɵˌmænsi/ or nigromancy is a form of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge, or to use the deceased as a weapon, as the term may sometimes be used in a more general sense to refer to black magic or witchcraft.
Japanese traditional mythology has a particular focus on the reanimated dead. Vagrant ghosts and corpses are explained to be the product of a violent or sudden death, the person having died holding a grudge or the person having been murdered and dying desiring revenge. During feudal times some pilgrims, oracles or monks also claimed to be able to see, speak or summon the dead, attributed to Taoist mysticism or a curse from the goddess of the underworld Izanami.
In Gameplay[]
While necromancy never makes a direct appearance in the series, it's said that Gamuran's mission was to obtain the necromancy scroll protected by the Asuka to resurrect himself in flesh and summon an army of the dead to take over Japan. While he manages to revive himself, he is killed by Goh before he goes any further.
